ALABAMA BOARD OF FUNERAL SERVICE MEMBERS


District 1: Mark N. Craddock, CFSP, Citronelle. Mr. Craddock previously served on the Board from January 1999 to December 2002, during which time he served as the Board's Chair. Mr. Craddock is a 1981 graduate of Jefferson State Community College. Mr. Craddock is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in Alabama and Mississippi. He is currently the co-owner of Freeman Funeral Services in Citronelle and Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Mississippi. He is past president of the Alabama Funeral Directors Association. He is currently a member of the Alabama Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Mississippi Funeral Directors Association, The Independent Funeral Group, Citronelle United Methodist Church, and supports many other various organizations in the community.

District 2: Vacant

District 3: Lance C. Brooks, Phenix City. Mr. Brooks was appointed to the Board in January 2018, replacing Mr. Sammy Seroyer. He is a 1993 graduate of Auburn University and a 2002 graduate of Jefferson State Community College’s Mortuary Education Program. Mr. Brooks is a licensed funeral director, embalmer, and is the owner of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City. He is a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, Phenix City Rotary Club, Phenix City Exchange Club, Alabama Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, and serves as a board member of the CVCC Foundation and Phenix City Russell County Chamber.

District 4: Mr. J. Douglas Williams, Crane Hill. Mr. Williams has worked in the funeral industry since 1976 and is a 1983 graduate of Jefferson State Community College Funeral Service Education program. He obtained his funeral director and embalmer license in a cremationist license in 2018. He became the owner of Southside Funeral Home of Rainbow City in 2000 and Cullman Heritage Funeral Home of Cullman in 2003. He also owns a cemetery in Rainbow City and Cullman. Mr. Williams is a former Cullman County Commissioner and Volunteer Fire Chief. He is a member and past President of Alabama Funeral Directors Association, a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, Chair of AFDA Legislative Committee, Commander of the State Mortuary Operation Response Team, and the Cullman Loins Club.

District 5: John C. Rudder, Scottsboro. Mr. Rudder previously served on the Board from January 2005 until December 2006. He is a 1981 graduate of Jefferson State Community College. Mr. Rudder is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in Alabama and Tennessee. He is currently the manager of Rudder Funeral Home of Scottsboro and past president of the Alabama Funeral Directors Association. He is currently a member of Alabama Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Stevenson Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Scottsboro Rotary Club. Mr. Rudder has two sons, with his youngest son, Lucas, serving next to him in the family business.

District 6: Mrs. Bryonda Collins, Hoover. Mrs. Collins obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Operation Management from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1994 and an Associate in Applied Science in Funeral Service Education from Jefferson State Community College in 2000. She received her funeral director license in 1998 and embalmer license in 2000. Mrs. Collins has served as the vice-president of Chambers Funeral Home in Bessemer since 2001. She is a member and the past Secretary and Treasurer of the Alabama Funeral Directors and Mortician Association, a member of the National Funeral Directors and Mortician Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, and the Independent Funeral Group. Mrs. Collins has served on the board for the Bessemer Area Chamber of Commerce and the Legacy YMCA. She is a member of Faith Chapel Church in Birmingham.

District 7: Ms. Rachel Arrington, Hoover. Ms. Arrington previously served on the Board from 1997 – 2001. She graduated from Jefferson State Community College Funeral Service Education program in 1988. She obtained her funeral director license in 1987 and her embalmer license in 1988. Ms. Arrington opened Arrington Funeral Home in 1990 and continue to serve the city of Birmingham. Ms. Arrington also received a Bachelor of Science and a master’s degree from Alabama State University in Business Administration and English. She is a member of Alabama Funeral Director and Mortician Association, the National Funeral Directors and Mortician Association, the Jefferson State Community College Mortuary Program Advisory Board, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Links, Inc., and Jack & Jill, Inc. She currently serves on the Jefferson County Coroner Board. She partners with the Birmingham city council as a community advocate to serve the under-privilege areas of Birmingham. Ms. Arrington is a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.

Consumer Member: Ed Hines, Alexander City. Mr. Hines was appointed to the Board in February 2019 as the first consumer member in the Board’s history. He is a small business owner and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Prattville. In his spare time, Mr. Hines enjoys playing golf and all outdoor activities.

Consumer Member: Bobby Burt, New Market. Dr. Burt was appointed to the Board in March 2019 as a consumer member. He is the Senior Pastor of University Baptist. Dr. Burt has an undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University, a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a PhD from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He enjoys reading and spending time with his family and friends.
